The high desert edge
We engineer every inch of MFL to protect your investments and guarantee uptime, providing an uncompromising environment for your most sensitive deployments.
100% Private, Climate-Controlled Suites: Every member operates in a totally isolated, private micro-observatory of their design. MFL will site-build a private 5’x5’ structure with a custom roll-off roof. Each pod/shed functions as its own micro data center, featuring dedicated mini-split AC units to eliminate thermal expansion and protect delicate optics from extreme daytime heat. Each space is plumbed with separate 1” in-slab ducts for fiber/copper and AC electric. At the electric outlet, we provide a battery-protected, conditioned DC power feed available 5-48VDC. You retain full control over the remote operations of your stack and structure.
Commercial Network Provisioning: Our facility runs on a multi-gigabit Ubiquiti routing and switching environment. The core DEMARC terminates a primary high-speed Frontier Fiber line, backed up by a roof-mounted Starlink Business array. Every client is securely isolated on their own Layer 3 Virtual Private Network (L3VPN). You have access to as many wired copper or fiber ports as you need, your own private SSID on the wireless controllers, and your own dedicated VPN configuration for tunnels or SSL-based connections. Have your own network? No problem, you can colocate it in the DEMARC room with our gear and use our physical plant.
Extreme Telemetry & Weather Automation: We never guess what the desert is doing. MFL is blanketed in proprietary Firemark environmental sensors in a grid across the property and Davis Vantage weather stations in the North and South. We track hyper-local wind shear, micro-bursts, and particulate matter. If our systems detect an incoming sandstorm or severe wind event, actionable logic automatically cuts priority tickets, alerts you, and triggers our staff to secure your equipment. You have full access to HLS feeds of the facility, your equipment, and the databases storing all live weather telemetry. You see the wind coming right when we do.
24/7 "Smart Hands" Support: Remote operations require guaranteed physical reliability. MFL staffs a dedicated, full-time resident technician on-site at the DEMARC facility. Our staff handles work tickets, installation, shipping/receiving, and physical work-orders. We have a fully permitted dwelling directly attached to the DEMARC, designed for 24/7 occupation and can support members who wish to do their own deployment or visit the site -anytime.
The Astrophotography Garden
With the MFL site acquisition complete and entering Phase 1 construction, we are actively accepting early members for our November 2026 launch of the Astrophotography Garden—a highly controlled, 20-position remote observatory deployment. Because we prioritize extreme reliability and white-glove support, we are strictly capping this initial build to gage use of the Lab and its team/resources.
Phase 1: The Founding Vanguard Tier (Spots 1–10)
To pre-install our customer base for a November launch, we are opening our Vanguard Tier to the first 10 founding members.
$300 / Month + $1,000 NRC
Lifetime Price Lock: Your monthly lease remains fixed for life—even if you take operational gaps between equipment upgrades.
Dedicated Infrastructure: 100% private, 100% yours private climate controlled space.

Every MFL site-built colo starts as a minimum 5'x5' wood-framed shell anchored to a 4-inch metal-reinforced concrete slab. Wall heights can be customized from 5 to 10 feet depending on your specific security and optical clearance requirements. The roof array operates on a heavy-duty, high-gauge metal track system designed for smooth, automated roll-off operations.
-
Your enclosure includes a 12-inch, high-PSI cast concrete pier that is structurally decoupled from the surrounding slab. Sunk 4 feet into the earth and rising 4 feet above the floor, these piers can support the payload of any commercial mount you bolt to them without transmitting footsteps or micro-vibrations. Need multiple instruments? We can engineer multiple isolated piers within a single upgraded footprint based on your spacing requirements.
-
MFL’s custom site-built micro-observatories utilize heavy-duty sliding gate motors driven by ASCOM-certified relay controllers (e.g., Lunatico Dragonfly / SkyRoof). Roof arrays natively integrate with all major automation suites (N.I.N.A., Voyager, ACP) via standard ASCOM/Alpaca protocols. For ultimate asset protection, every roof controller is hardwired to our central telemetry grid, triggering an automated, hardware-level emergency closure in the event of grid failure or severe weather detection—completely independent of the client's local PC.
-
Space is a premium, and your private micro-observatory has plenty of room for the hardware you aren't actively using. Keep spare filters, extra cables, backup batteries, or a secondary optical tube safely stored directly on-site. You can even freight-ship components directly to the MFL DEMARC, and our Resident Technician will receive and stage them securely in your unit.
-
Do our pods really need 2x6 Douglas Fir framing, dense foam insulation, four separate 1-inch underground conduit runs back to the DEMARC, a dedicated breaker, and an independent 9,000 BTU mini-split heat pump? Yes. We don't stop there. We seal structural air gaps with custom-fabricated rubber flanges and run HEPA filters in every air handler to actively lock out silica dust. This isn't a shed; it's a datacenter in the desert.
